PASCO's Discover Rotation Platform is a great tool for helping students to concretely understand the principles of rotation. The two platforms are constructed of high strength birch veneer MDF. The lower platform rests on the ground and the upper platform rotates freely. The bearings on this heavy-duty platform were designed for very low friction and to withstand the rigors of student use.
Students can lie down on the platform to investigate their moment of inertia and its relationship to their angular motion. In addition, the stool can be placed over the upper platform for students to perform rotational studies while sitting.
The included stool is held in place through the use of machined grooves around the outside of the rotating platform. Spokes are installed on the bottom of the rotating platform for the measurement of motion. When used with a photogate, these spokes function in the same manner as a smart pulley. The photogate mounts directly on the base platform with a built-in post. Finally, students can wrap a rope around the outer edge of the rotating platform. They can then use the rope to spin the platform up to a desired speed.
Includes:
- Rotational platform
- Stool
- Attachment bracket and screw for photogate
- Built-in flags for use as a smart pulley
